Match Report
Ipswich School 15A vs  RGS, Colchester
On: Saturday, 24 Nov 2018
Venue: Away

Ipswich were highly unfortunate to come away on the losing side in an incredibly entertaining game vs CRGS. It could be said that both sides were guilty of slack defending and some inconsistent tackling at times, however where the defending may have been poor, some of the attacking play was excellent.

Ipswich started well, with A team debutant Midwood collecting the difficult kick off and setting up a good platform for Ipswich to build from. Possession changed several times in the opening exchanges, with strong runs from Jermyn, White, & Hyde getting Ipswich on the front foot. CRGS were quick to get their threatening runners into the game, and whilst Ipswich were closing down space and making the initial tackle they were guilty of not wrestling the man to go the ground. The result of which was a 26-0 scoreline after ten minutes.

Not to be deterred and spurred on by a fired up Johnson & Baker, Ipswich rallied and found some breakthroughs, eventually going into half time 28-26 up thanks to tries from White, Newlove, Baker, and the exceptional Leeson who ran 70 meters following a smart interception.

The second half continued in very much the same vain as the first, Ipswich were a little relaxed at the breakdown and missed opportunities for steals and chances to keep the game tempo high. Despite this, their sheer grit and determination to not capitulate was a huge testament to their development over the course of the season. The backs in particular were very impressive in their ability to reproduce what they have learnt during the week in a game situation, making good headway over the gain line.

With six minutes to go, Ipswich were 35-45 down. Jermyn then produced a wonderful individual effort, collecting the ball straight from the kick off to make the score 42-45. Ipswich scrambled hard to get the final score but unfortunately ran out of time.
