Ipswich School 1st XV 31 Wisbech Grammar School 20

What a start to our Saturday fixtures and preparation for our first National game this coming Wednesday against Bishops Stortford High School. A new season and a new group of young men keen to cement their place in the team and make the shirts their own. We have a nice mix of experience Year 13 forwards and Year 11 and 12 backs. From the warm up the feeling in the squad was right, smiles on faces, effort and determination in their actions. We took this into the game and flew out the gates taking a three try lead and our strong forward carrying and tackling stifled the opposition. With any good game the opposition where not going to roll over, either side of half time they produced trys. What I was most pleased with was how hard we made them work to score their trys and how well we came back, finishing the game the stronger team and adding two more trys. Deciding on the man of the match was not an easy task, special mention must be given to Tom Batley, Alfie Buckley and Joe Haines who returned late last night from a physics trip. Harry Haley, making his first start and Freddie Rogers who worked tirelessly. Max Robertson carried and hit everything. Aly Marlow and Charlie Coe linked well to lead us and Harry Dunnett stepped up again, but my MOM was Tom Cleave. He covered every blade of grass cover tackling and used his quick brain and feet to score a great try. The only getative from the day was the loss of one of our leading players though injury for 6 to 8 week. Luke you will be a massive loss to the group and we with you a speedy recover and return to the team.
