On: Saturday, 08 Sep 2018
Venue: Away

The First XI Girl’s travelled to The Perse to play in their first fixture of the season. Having not played a fixture this season, the girl’s had to adapt quickly and get used to playing around new teammates and new structures.

After a slow start and conceding a couple of early goals, the girls bounced back through some brilliant counter attacking play that saw Catherine Levick break through the lines and slot the ball home to equalise.

The defence did well to hold up against a number of dangerous attacks down the flanks. Year 10 debutant Flora Day did an exceptional job in net, making some crucial saves at important times in the half.

The team was a little slow to react defensively which put them under pressure in the latter part of the first half but managed to go into the break holding on at 2-1 down.

The second half saw a reinvigorated, hardworking team performance from Ipswich with some fantastic pressing that created a number of turnovers and attacking opportunities. Scoring early in the second half to bring the game back to 2-2 through another Catherine Levick counter attack, the team were pushing hard for a result.

Tilly Griffin and Frankie Rogers were pivotal in defence stopping a number of the opposition’s wide attacks whilst Captain Clemmie Knight and Evie Duley controlled the middle of the ground.

A lapse late in the second half saw The Perse create a number attacks but the girl’s remained defensively solid and managed to regain momentum late, creating a number of opportunities at the end of the game.
